China’s National Treasure
The giant panda, regarded as one of China’s National Treasures, is on the verge of extinction. Today there are fewer than 1,000 giant pandas living in the world. The giant panda is the symbol of eco-environmental conservation. Visitors to China can see this reclusive animal in Sichuan Province’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. We hope, with their cute faces, unusual beauty and grace, giant pandas can bring visitors to China pleasure and enjoyment.

Living Fossils
Paleontologists have discovered fossil remains that indicate that over 8 million years ago ancestors of the giant panda were living in China.  That is the reason why the giant panda is has been called one of China’s “living fossil” by historians.
The giant panda’s lifespan in the wild is unknown, but in captivity they average more than 20 years. Due to the constant expansion of human activity, the habitat of giant panda has been gradually shrinking and they are now only found in the southern part of Gansu province and northwest part of the Sichuan basin.

Plump and Lovely
The giant panda looks quite plump. Its body length is about 160 to 180 centimeters, and weighs 80 to 125 kilograms. The giant panda’s colorization is simple but elegant. Normally, the giant panda is very gentle and reclusive, like a shy lady. When the panda meets strangers, it often covers its face with its palm, or lowers its head to hide its face. After giving birth however, a female giant panda can be very aggressive using her teeth and claws to protect her infant.

Recluse in the Bamboo Forest
Giant pandas live alone and scattered, rather than living in herds.  Because of this, the giant panda is often called “the recluse in the bamboo forest”. They do not move too far from their home base, and live their entire lives in a small area. The giant panda can eat at anytime, and sleep in any place. They have a truly easygoing lifestyle.

Best place to see panda
Over 80% of the world’s giant Pandas live in Sichuan Province, China. The best place to see panda is the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, which covers an area of over 359,000 square meters and it is now under expanding for an area to over 1,999,000 square meters.
As the first ex-situ conservation project for giant pandas, this base has not only dedicated itself to giant panda conservation, but has also endeavored to combine natural scenery and man-made landscapes to create wonderful and humane living areas for giant pandas, red pandas, and other Chinese endangered animals.
This panda research breeding base appears to be a beautiful landscaped park. Luxuriant bamboo grow everywhere around the base.
Here 15 pandas live a protected life, where visitors can view them eating, sleeping or playing. Visitors can also learn more about this precious species in the giant panda museum.
The panda hospital can also be visited, where there is a 7,000 square meter educational space for the foreign and domestic visitors. In these learning areas, visitors will come to know more about the work being done to preserve this lovely animal.
There also has a project that you can even hug the cute panda.

Saunas In Really Cold Places

Unlike Saunas in clubs, spas, hotels and people’s houses, Saunas in the depths of Scandanavian winters are totally different.

We’ve heard of running out in the snow, jumping into lakes and getting beaten with Birch twigs, but what’s it really like to actually go there and do it?

Sauna in Finland

A couple of Canucks, Dalene & Peter Heck sold up to travel the world and did just that in their visit to Finland.
As well as sitting around naked with strangers they smeared themselves in a peat moss paste which was easier to put on than get off.

Peat Moss “Paste”

You can see this story, and lots of others about their trips around the world.

Can You Trust This Indian Travel Company? We Don’t.

We had an agreement with Rare Holidays, an Indian travel company, to create an advertisement for them which we did, including several amendments and inclusions they insisted upon. In return they agreed pay just US$97 to advertise in traveljunkies for one year. We kept our side of the agreement and created their advert but after 3 months running  their advert they still didn’t pay and they have now said  “cancel our request”.
They have come up with excuses about why they can’t pay which we do not believe, so we no longer recommend this company as it is our experience they cannot be trusted.

Indian Travel Company Fails To Pay It’s Bill.

In July 2012 we did work for an Indian Travel Company creating an advertisement for them including several revisions at their request.

We created the professional advert from scratch from content on their website and they agreed to pay our fee of US$97 and we would also display the advert for one year on our website www.traveljunkies.com.

After 3 months of excuses for not paying they have now said …
“I cannot understand what advert you are talking about”
This is a stupid, miserable attempt to justify not paying.

We have removed the advert until they pay and if they don’t pay within 7 days we will name and shame them.

Keep watching …

Campaign To Reduce UK Air Passenger Duty (APD)

Please support this campaign and pass it on.

Dear Mr Chapman

As a frequent flyer, you will know as well as anyone that taxes on air travel are higher in the UK than anywhere else in the world – so I wanted to tell you about a campaign aimed at changing that.

In the last six years, Air Passenger Duty (APD) has risen more than 300 per cent on many routes – while inflation has increased barely 20 per cent.

Some customers are now paying £184 for a single journey, while the cost for families taking their annual holiday has sky-rocketed: In 2006, a family of four flying to the Caribbean would pay £80 in APD – today they would pay £324 in World Traveller, or £648 in World Traveller Plus, Club World, or First.

This level of increase has no justification and no international parallel. Yet the UK Government has firm plans to keep on raising APD every year to 2017.

This tax also acts as a brake on growth and jobs for the whole economy by making it more difficult for businesses to reach new markets, and making the UK less attractive to overseas visitors.

How can you help? Just take a few seconds to visit www.afairtaxonflying.org and key in your postcode. This will generate an automatic letter to your MP, calling for action on a tax that is now far too high and inflicting real damage on the UK’s efforts to move out of recession. Add your name, send and you’re done.

This is an important campaign – and I hope you will support us in it

Best wishes

From This . . . To This . . .

From this . . .

To this . . .

Disabled Beach Buggy

Facebook post today from my friend Keith Keller of Cayman Custom Cycles . . .

“Ok so have been away from our Facebook for a little while as we have been busy!! As a custom shop we get to play around with different motorcycles but not all our builds are to go fast… We have a friend that is wheelchair bound and wanted to be able to go into the ocean while he is here. His regular wheelchair weighs about the same as a Harley so getting it down the beach would be extremely hard to do and if it got wet would be costly. So we built the CCC Beach buggy to get him up and down the beach and in & out of the water. Can’t wait to see his face as he tries it out on Wednesday.”

Good on ya Keith
