Discover the Regal Appeal of Majorca

The Balearic Islands sit not far off the east coast of Spain, basking in the hot sun all summer long in the cool waters of the Mediterranean. It’s easy for the island chain to catch your eye as a holiday destination, but with so much going on between all the islands the difficult part comes when you try to decide which one to visit.

Majorca, the largest island of the archipelago, has more to offer a budget or short-stay traveller than most European countries, and if it’s good enough for the Spanish Royal Family holidaying at Marivent Palace, then frankly, it’s good enough for us.

And it is easy to see why Majorca has been given the royal seal of approval.

Simply divided into two, the south of the island is a bustling party destination of nightclubs, bars and beaches, drawing millions of young and single travellers from across Europe with some of the biggest and hottest club nights the Mediterranean has to offer. Well-versed in catering for large groups and parties, flights to the Palma De Majorca Airport put you right in the heart of the action in a coastal city where the beach ends and the club begins.

Cheap flights to Majorca from airlines like Jet2.com transport you right to the heart of the action, so all you have to do is turn off, tune in and drop out with some of the best dance music and club nights in the world. Home to the world-famous Pacha nightclub, Palma also offers Tito’s nightclub, boasting top DJs, dancers, circus entertainers and perhaps most spectacularly of all, glorious panoramic views of the Med serving as the perfect backdrop to your night.

Majorca’s Other Side

Head north and you will encounter a whole other Majorca, with hidden treasures and cultural highlights the island has taken millennia to collect. Every ancient civilisation of the Mediterranean has left its mark on the island’s history and heritage, and Majorca has added a few of its own. Ancient Roman ruins stand side-by-side with Moorish palaces and relics of early Christianity. It is the Majorcan landscape that is the true star of the show – viewpoints ranging along the north coast are some of the grandest in the world, with Formentera Peninsula but a short drive from Majorca’s second city of Pollensa.

The jewel in Majorca’s crown however must surely be the Serra de Tramuntana. With its newly-minted UNESCO World Heritage Site status (as of February 2013!), this glorious 90km stretch of Majorca’s central mountain range with its woodland and rich vegetation has been secured of protection and preservation for future generations of visitors. Walks, hikes and excursions to the region reveal by turn groves of olive trees, pine trees and spring water wells, stunning views and glimpse of rare and endangered species. Once you arrive you really can forget the rest of the world, because Majorca leaves it far behind.
